On May 9th, talented students from 40 countries participating in the 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, honored the memory of the people who died in the fight against the German-fascist invaders in the Great Patriotic war. Among the participants of the ceremony - representatives of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Brazil, Vietnam, Guyana, Israel, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and other countries. The children laid flowers to the improvised memorial organized in the exhibition called "Women in the war".
The photo exhibition of the Russian military historical society "Women in the war" was opened in Belo Horizonte in the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory with the support of the Russian House in Brazil in the exhibition space of the cultural Center Minas Tênis Club. It shows the significance of Soviet women who bravely took part in the Great Patriotic war. Tankists and linkers, intelligence agents and pilots, guerrillas and medics – according to some data, more than a million Soviet women participated in combat operations. This is an unprecedented number, as noted by the organizers of the exhibition.
Forever remembered are civil workers who contributed to the Great Victory: teachers, factory workers and others. A separate stand is dedicated to mothers-heroes whose sons gave lives to Victory over the German-fascist occupiers.
"Every human life is priceless, – said the chairman of the Jury of IMChO-59, professor of the department of chemistry MSU, Alexander gladilin. – We remember all the sacrifices that people have brought all over the world for universal values, love, friendship and understanding. Paying special attention to memorable events in the year 80th anniversary of victory, we set our task to convey to the young generation the memory of those terrible years, as well as the value of life and the great price paid to their ancestors for the opportunity to live and develop."
Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Belo Horizonte Carolina Bernardes: "It is a special day for each of us, for all Russian residents and other countries whose ancestors helped win the ideas of humanism, peace and harmony. I am glad that there are so many representatives of different countries in Belu Orizonti, who are so well-established in our desire to preserve the memory of this war and its victims. Thank them."
Academician, vice President of the Russian D. Mendeleev Chemical Society, Dean of fundamental physical chemistry department at MSU Yulia Gorbunova: "This is a holiday of each of us. Every family has people who fought in that war. My grandmother was a surgeon, she walked along with the infantry and operated the wounded on the battlefield. There she met my grandfather, and in August 1944 my mother was born. Therefore, for our families it is a very personal, special holiday. A holiday with tears in front of her eyes. We must remember the tragedy of this war and transfer the memory of it to the next generations."
Brazil declared war against Germany and its allies on 22 August 1942 after a series of bloody attacks of German submarines on civil Brazilian vessels. Infantry division and aircraft carrier group -- 25 thousand Brazilians went to Europe in 1943. They fought on the Italian front from September 1944 to the surrender of German troops in Italy in April 1945. During this time, the loss of Brazilians was 1889 soldiers and sailors, 3 military ships, 22 fighter and 25 commercial ships.
